Getting started
Your first minutes with the beta.
WELCOME ABOARD
Wayfarer is a Windows x64 beta. Here is how to get going and help improve it.
Download the portable ZIP, extract the entire archive, and open Wayfarer.exe in the extracted folder. Keep the program and its runtime files together. Home Port is your customizable starting page.
No. Accounts add optional profile sync. Create an account or sign in using a one-time email code, then sign in separately inside Wayfarer on each device.
Click the update-available notification, or open Settings → Updates. Wayfarer downloads and checks the ZIP before revealing it. Close the browser, extract the new version into a new folder, and run its Wayfarer.exe. Your AppData profile is reused. An installer and simpler installation are planned; they are not available yet.
The current beta is unsigned. Code signing is being arranged. Signing identifies the publisher; it does not guarantee that Windows will never show a reputation warning. If you are uncomfortable running the beta, wait for a signed release.
Use the Settings search, Captain’s Cabinet (Ctrl+K), or Gobsworth’s Chat button. Ask a question such as “How do I hide Guno?” and follow his link to the highlighted setting. His assistant uses local rules, so it may need a more specific question.
Reload it, then try a protection exception for that website. If an optional writing helper interferes with an editor, disable hints for that site. Some sites depend on browser features the beta does not yet support. Include reproduction steps in your report.
The current release supports Wayfarer’s declarative JSON toolbars. Read the add-on guide. Chrome extension compatibility and community submissions are planned.
Inside Wayfarer, open Beta feedback, choose Bug, Error, Crash, Improvement or Feature, and describe it. Review the readable draft, then send through your email app. Local error capture does not automatically email anything.
You can also email bugs@hameltonsoftware.com with Wayfarer in the subject. Include the beta version, Windows version, steps, expected result and actual result. Screenshots help; remove private details, account codes and personal browsing data before sending.
