Schema 1, declarative controls
Use UTF-8 JSON under 64 KB. Include schema, id, name, version, publisher, description and controls. IDs use lowercase letters, digits and hyphens. Toolbar IDs have 3 to 50 characters. Unknown properties are rejected.

One to six controls
A toolbar has at most one search control. Link controls use HTTPS. Search URLs contain exactly one {query} placeholder in the query string; submitted text is URL-encoded. URLs cannot contain credentials or fragments.
Supported browser actions
Action controls may invoke find, source, instruments, home, openSettings, goblinChat or updatesPage. These open browser tools without returning page data to the toolbar.
No executable extension code
Manifests cannot execute third-party JavaScript, HTML, CSS, workers or native code. They cannot read page content, cookies, account credentials, clipboard data or browsing history.
Import and review
Settings > Add-ons & toolbars > Import toolbar JSON validates a manifest and shows its publisher, origins and browser actions before installation. Publisher names are self-reported. Imported packages are not signed or store-reviewed.
Space, storage and recovery
Up to twelve toolbars may be installed. Detach at most three rows; six controls per toolbar. Toolbars stay local in addons.json and are excluded from account profile sync. --safe-toolbars disables custom toolbars for that launch.
